A lot of you have been wondering what scatsinging really is and according to wikipedia it’s defined as a vocal improvisation with wordless vocables, nonsense syllables or without words at all, which pretty much defines a lot of my music.
While it’s improvised, the melodic lines are very often variations on arpeggio and scale fragments, riffs andstock patterns which in this case is with instrumental improvisers.
Not all of my music would be characterised as scat, a lot of is is closer to original new orleans jazz with a touch of blues, which I play either by myself or sometimes with my band depending on what I feel like doing.
This weekend I have mainly been sitting down in my basement with a bottle of Jack and just experimenting with new sounds and styles, nothing worth recording by it helped improve my skills and gave me some good ideas for some further projects I might be doing with my band. That is the beauty of music, you can just go with it and play as you want, trying new things and changing the sounds to fit your own mood. The saxophone and guitar are great tools for this, it’s a bit harder with the piano for some reason. Tonight i’ll take the wife our for a nice dinner, she haven’t seen much of me during the weekend so she deservers a little attention too, she is the most amazing wife you can imagine, beautiful, loving and best of all very patient.
